MICE Summit, Mövenpick Hotel, Berlin

Sunday 23rd June 2013:

Zoe from the Morris team flew from Manchester to Berlin via Heathrow on Sunday afternoon and was greeted in Berlin by one of the Mövenpick representatives who gave her a mini tour of the city whilst on the way to the hotel – first impressions was that Berlin is a city full of culture and history with some very impressive land marks and buildings. Once checked in, Zoe found the hotel room to be a good size, had floor length windows which gave in lots of natural daylight, a flat screen television, a power shower and a very comfy bed. After a quick shower, it was time for drinks and canapés in the hotels bar area which gave a good opportunity to get to know the fellow delegates and to get a feel for the type of people that were attending the event. The evening was finished off with margaritas in a Sky Bar just across the road from the hotel which gave great night views of the city.

Monday 24th June 2013:

7.30am was breakfast time and it proved to be great and set us up for the day – the scrambled egg being a personal favourite of Zoe’s. It was then time for the welcome speech from Francis Bertrand of Mövenpick who greeted us warmly and gave a little background information into the hotel chain. Zoe then had a list of appointments seeing hotel representatives in places such as Hamburg, Dubai and Egypt – Hamburg being one of the most impressive. Lunch time soon came around with a buffet that had a huge selection of food to choose from – the crème brulee was amazing. It was then time for Chris Parnham’s key note speech on ‘Never give up on the customer experience’ which kept everybody smiling and held a strong message. Afterwards it was on to more appointments with places such as Amsterdam, Geneva and Egerkingen – Amsterdam proving to stand out the most. At 7.30pm we met in the lobby and headed to a traditional German restaurant for a three course meal with the starter being beef and the main being ox cheek. The restaurant also had its own mini beach which over looked the river.

Tuesday 25th June 2013:

Tuesday proved to be very rainy and wet but it did not manage to dampen the spirits of the delegates. The team set off with their umbrellas and poncho’s to find the Potzdammer Platz, the next stop was the Sony Centre which was a very impressive building.

The rain got heavier and so it was decided that the rest of the tour would take place on the coach so that the delegates could enjoy the sites whilst being dry. Before this, the team were taken to a traditional German restaurant which served up a very tasty version of ‘bangers and mash.’ After lunch, it was time for a canvas spray painting session which released everybody’s creative side. The evening meal was a BBQ at the hotel but with the delegates eating inside as the rain had not decided to stop. There was a lot of rich meat served up including a hog roast, steak, lobster and prawn skewers which could not be faulted, the evening was ended with a disco and lots of dancing.

Wednesday 26th June 2013:

The flight back to Manchester was in the evening so Zoe had to the day to see a little bit more of Berlin and on Wednesday there was no rain! Zoe saw sights including Potzdammer Platz, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag and the Holocaust Memorial. The overall trip had a great business and cultural mix and is a place that we would definitely recommend for both business and leisure and will hope to return to soon.
